Morocco is comprised of a melting pot of different cultural backgrounds. The most popular cultural background is Arab-Berber descent. Many of the modern Berber tribes reside deep in the mountain and desert regions that make up the outskirts of Morocco. These are the friendliest people a visitor could hope to come across in these regions.
For many years, Islam has been the dominant religion in Morocco. As modern times approached, this began to change. Mixed in among this are an estimated 100,000 Christians of French descent and 8,000 Jews. The Jewish community resides primarily in Casablanca and Marrakech. (more…)

The thought of traveling to Morocco is enough to make anyone get excited. With peculiar names of cities–such as Marrakesh, Tangier, Casablanca, chefchaouen, Fez and Essaouira–why wouldn’t someone want to see it for themselves? Busy streets, large crowds, friendly smiles, intense debates; as soon as you arrive in Morocco you will know that you have come to a seemingly different world. Sure, it will be different than the environment you are used to, but that’s the whole idea of traveling–to experience the thrills and different areas of the world! (more…)

Morocco went out looking for precious metals and found some: Gold, silver and bronze medals, that is. Morocco entered the 11th Pan Arab Games and won twenty-two gold, thirty-two silver and thirty-nine bronze medals. Morocco ranked fourth overall in the medal hunt. Cairo hosted the 11th Pan Arab Games held at Military Academy Stadium. Moroccan runner Brahim Beloua won the Half-Marathon Race in a record time of 1 hour, 2 minutes, 30 seconds. (more…)

Morocco’s Supreme Court reached a milestone, celebrating its Golden Anniversary. His majesty, King Mohammed VI, addressed a message to the International Seminar of Justice to mark the occasion. The King reiterated his pride in the reestablishment of the Supreme Court by his grandfather, King Mohammed V. Importance of the institution was underlined by a year long celebration that ended with International Seminar. (more…)

One of the best ways to dive into Moroccan culture is to strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to you at a local café. A simple conversation over a warm cup of sweet coffee could lead to a lifelong friendship long after you leave Morocco. By nature, Moroccan people are hospitable. It is an essential element to their culture. At first, they can seem intimidating and unapproachable. All it takes is an open mind and friendly nature to become fast friends with any of the Moroccan people. (more…)

Morocco has a new government in place. It came, however, not without some tough bargaining. New faces in the government picture include seven women but no one from the Islamic party. Interior Minister Chakib Benmoussa kept his job while Foreign Minister Mohamed Benaissa lost his, replaced by Taieb Fassi Fihri. (more…)

Mealtime in Morocco is a worshiped treasure. There is no extensive use of utensils found at the dining table. Meals are generally consumed with the first three fingers on a predominate right hand. A piece of bread often acts as a utensil, in fact. The biggest meal customarily begins with the midday meal; but, Make no mistake. There is enough food provided during this sitting to fuel the Moroccan taxi driver, police officer or street sweeper for the entire day. (more…)

Morocco and France are friends according to French President Sarkozy. He is in Morocco to nurture that friendship and mend a few fences. Mr. Sarkozy told that France has given Morocco 200 million Euros for development, has made France the primary investor with around 60% of foreign investment made in Morocco. He says that 500 French firms have subsidiaries in the African country that employs nearly 180,000 people. (more…)

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the League of Arab States have both come out in support of Morocco regaining control of Spanish cities of Sebta and Meillilia in northern Morocco. King Juan Carlos of Spain caused a furor when he visited the two cities during his recent trip to Morocco. (more…)

The splendid landscapes of Morocco provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. There is no better way to dive into the crystal blue ocean waters than grabbing a surfboard and catching a wave in Essaouirra or Agadir. For those that like a bit of a challenge, Morocco offers up vast mountain ranges like the High and Middle Atlas Mountains, which are perfect for a day or multi-day hike outing. Former Moroccan Minister of Justice, Mohamed Bouzoubaa passed away on Friday, November 16th following a long illness in Rabat. He was 68 years old. King Mohammed VI called Mr Bouzoubaa a man who had devotion and wisdom, who devoted his life to supporting justice and defending human rights. His Majesty praised the former seasoned lawyer and committed political campaigner. He sent condolences to the family of the deceased calling his passing a great loss for the family and for Morocco. November 18th is the day that France yielded and said Morocco had the right to independence and sovereignty. King Mohammed V returned from exile on November 18, 1955 and announced that Morocco was free from being a protectorate of France. He asked all Moroccans to work towards a new Morroco. (more…)

Good things are happening between Morocco and the European Union. Negotiations are serving great results because of the strong relationship according to Moroccan Foreign Minister, Taieb Fassi Fibri. EU’s Commissioner for External Relations and Neighborhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, is visiting Morocco. Among the goals for her visit is to strengthen bilateral relations and shore up multi-dimensional ties. (more…)

Security Council of the United Nations restated its support of the Moroccan proposal to end the three-decade old dispute over the Sahara. The Council called for all nations to work together with the United Nations and with each other. Consideration should be given to find a way to a political solution to the impasse between Morocco and the Algerian-backed separatists known as the Polisario sources said. (more…)
