Morocco Tunnel Set for Construction

Construction is set to begin on a railway tunnel running underneath the Gibraltar Strait that will connect Morocco and Spain. This Morocco tunnel project has been scheduled for construction for quite some time now. In the 1980’s, two teams from both regions met to begin talks about how and where to get the project started. The two teams assigned to the project are SNED from Morocco and SECEG from Spain. Although the two first came together in the 80’s, it was not until 1996 when the first technical report detailed the scope of the project surfaced. (more…)

Morocco’s Alloudi Out

It is time for Morocco’s team to demonstrate its many talents according to Coach Henri Michel. Atlas Lions will have to play its next two games without striker Soufiane Alloudi. Alloudi suffered a knee injury in Morocco’s opening game against Namibia. He will not play until the second round. Coach Henri Michel regrets that the star player will miss the games but he reassured that the other players have the potential for compensating the loss of the striker. (more…)

Morocco Debuts New Trade System

The next couple of days will see a new stock exchange program released. Casablanca’s stock exchange program is set to unveil Euronext’s NSC platform that will change the way stock transactions are handled. The Casablanca stock market divides into three different sectors: one for big companies, one for medium to small sized companies and one for growth stocks. Finances arrive throughout a day from the hands of domestic stock market traders as well as small Moroccan investors. (more…)

Morocco Celebrates Achoura Festival

Morocco children of every age are celebrating Morocco’s Festival of Achoura, or the tenth day of Muharram, which falls on January 19 th this year. Families traditionally gather together to have special meals and offer zakat or a tenth of their annual income to the poor. Street celebrations, bonfires, and fireworks are other common ways of celebrating. (more…)

Ouarzazate: A Moroccan Hollywood

Look out Dreamworld, here comes Morocco. Plans are in the works to turn Ouarzazate into a Morocco Hollywood with plans to spend 43 million dirhams to turn the southern Moroccan city into a international film center by 2016. The plan looks to promote Ouarzazate as a concept for film makers–similar to Warner Brothers Studio in Hollywood or Dreamcity Film City in Capetown. (more…)

Former Moroccan Foreign Minister Receives Honorary U.S. Degree

Mohamed Benaissa, former foreign minister of Morocco, received a snowy winter welcome upon arriving in Minnesota recently. As a graduate of the University of Minnesota, he was returning to receive an honorary doctor of law degree for public service. In spite of the frigid weather conditions, Benaissa called the journey an emotional occurrence. (more…)

Majestic Medersa el-Attarine

The city of Fez plays home to one of the most stunning pieces of architecture that can be found in Morocco. This is the Medersa el-Attarine or Attrainr Madrase as some locals call it. Situated at the edge of the spice and perfume market, this architectural beauty was created in 1325. Construction was initiated by Sultan Yaqub Abu Said Uthman II who also had a hand in several other buildings around the city of Fez. (more…)

Research Center in Morocco

Springboard Research Center recently announced plans to open a new, state of the art research center in Casablanca, Morocco. James Erickson is slated to head up the day to day operations of the new center. Erickson has been with the company during its Middle East expansion over the past year. Angsana Riads Provide Tranquility

In a short two year time period, Banyan Tree Group, headquartered in Asia has branched out into Marrakech. The development of a sister company, Angsana Resorts and Spas has led to the recent creation of Angsana Riads and Riad Si Said. This brings the total of Angsana properties in Marrakesh Morocco to six. There are two more slated for openings later this year. One will be in Marrakech and another in Essaouira. (more…)

Morocco Commited to UN Talks

Morocco restated its commitment to finding a political solution to the Western Sahara issue. And called on Algeria and the Poliasrio to take their responsibility to the outcome seriously. Moroccan Interior Minister, Chakib Benmoussa invited Algeria to be an active contributor in the negotiations. Minister Benmoussa recalled that UN Security Council has called up all the parties to work with the UN and among themselves using the peace process created by the Moroccan Initiative. (more…)

Morocco-Senegal Diplomatic Row Ends

Morocco and Senegal ended their diplomatic row following serious talks between the two governments. Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Taleb Fassi Fibri, and his Senegalese counterpart, Dr. Cheikh Tidane Gadio, decided on the immediate return their ambassadors to their respective posts.
