Morocco’s Toughest Race: Maraton du Sables

Morocco is well known for many things: Incredible scenery, old mountains, deserts, and ancient but modern cities all top the list. But did you know that Morocco hosts one of the most demanding foot races in the world? The Marathon des Sables (Marathon of the Sands) is held every spring in the southern Moroccan desert, part of the Sahara Desert. Morocco Trip: Things To Bring

Morocco, located in the Northern part of the African continent, is inhabited by 27 million people. There could quite possibly be more than that living there as it occupies 710,850 square kilometers of land. While 98.7% of the inhabitants in Morocco are of the Sunni Muslim faith, there are other religions – namely Christianity and Judaism – practiced there.  Arabic is the principle language, followed by the native language of the Berbers, then French and Spanish. Onward To Morocco’s Jbel Toubkal Summit

Located in southwestern Morocco, nestled into the Toubkal National Park, stands the Jbel Toubkal mountain, majestic and impressive. With a stunning height of 4,167 metres, this particular peak is the single highest mountain in North Africa, located in the High Atlas Mountains. Looking from the ridge of the summit, those who journey to the top are given a breathtaking view of clear blue eyes and mountains dusted with snow, which is always a bit of a surreal sensation in Africa.   (more…)

Cycle Through Morocco
