Wildlife of Morocco (with pictures)

Morocco for the past several years has been trying to stop the deforestation of their lands by creating a number of bio reserves and national parks in the Ait Bougmez Valley, Rif Mountains, and High Atlas Mountains. Wildlife in Morocco has dwindled because of agricultural use of the land, pollution entering the water sources and locals annihilating various species. The government has taken this turmoil into account, and there are still many areas of Morocco which luckily still untouched.  There are eighteen species of mammals that are on the border of extinction along with eleven bird species here in Morocco. For anyone who is visiting Morocco the best places to witness the wonders of wildlife are the national parks and reserves. (more…)

The Mediterranean coastline of Morocco is from Ceuta to Melilla, which includes the red and rocky Rif Mountains. The Rif Mountains are a vibrant green juxtaposed agaisnt the red earth of the land.  They present some easy day treks or longer over night treks into the forests where cascades and wildlife reside. Many consider the coastline to look wildly savage.  The waters of the Mediterranean tend to be rough and difficult for swimming. Within Morocco there are numerous regions worth exploring for the different natural elements that make up the country.  The Ziz Valley is in central Morocco in desert and dunes rather than in the High Atlas Mountains where trekking is more common. The Ziz Valley still has plenty of wonders that will spark your interest.  One such place is Tafilalt and the surrounding area.  Tafilalt is a region in the Ziz Valley that hosts Rissani, a small town.  The town is at the end of the road leading from Marrakesh and through the Ziz Valley.
