Morocco, located in the Northern part of the African continent, is inhabited by 27 million people. There could quite possibly be more than that living there as it occupies 710,850 square kilometers of land. While 98.7% of the inhabitants in Morocco are of the Sunni Muslim faith, there are other religions – namely Christianity and Judaism – practiced there. Arabic is the principle language, followed by the native language of the Berbers, then French and Spanish. It is ruled by a king with some democratic functions such as a parliment and the country itself enjoys a fair amount of free speech. (more…)

Located in southwestern Morocco, nestled into the Toubkal National Park, stands the Jbel Toubkal mountain, majestic and impressive. With a stunning height of 4,167 metres, this particular peak is the single highest mountain in North Africa, located in the High Atlas Mountains. Looking from the ridge of the summit, those who journey to the top are given a breathtaking view of clear blue eyes and mountains dusted with snow, which is always a bit of a surreal sensation in Africa. Two powerful publishing companies recently announced a plan to join forces in effort to boost information distribution in Morocco. Moroc Soir and Knowledge View are coming together to revolutionize the publishing community. Moroc Soir is the leading publisher in Morocco which produces several newspapers and similar online versions daily. The top two papers for this company are the Daily Le Matin published in French and the Arabic Dailies Assabah. (more…)

Casablanca is quickly becoming a financial powerhouse point in Morocco. There are several industrial companies relocating portions of plant operations to this area. Some of these are going one step further and moving the entire operation to Casablanca and setting up new headquarters here. Financial experts wishing to keep this industrial growth in a forward motion have called for a need to invest roughly 51.7 Moroccan Dirhams into the Casablanca economy. (more…)

Morocco is out of the African Cup race. Ghana was the victors in the match on Monday. Morocco’s Atlas Lions looked good in their opening game against Namibia, winning 5-1. But then they lost their next two matches. (more…)

Morocco’s government has a plan to reduce unemployment by expanding job training. Vocational education will provide the labor market with 750,000 graduates over the next four years. Training institutions, both private and public, expect to have a 50% increase in enrollments. (more…)

Tourist numbers of 7.4 million visitors to Morocco in 2006, puts the country well on the way to reaching its goal of ten million by 2010. This is a 13% increase over 2006 showing that the country’s long term strategy is paying off. Visitor numbers are the highest they have been in forty years which translates into revenues from tourism to nearly 59 billion dirhams. (more…)

United Nations Ad Hoc committee reviewed Morocco’s reports on its implementation of the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. Morocco’s delegation pointed out its efforts it has made for elimination of gender based differences at the meeting in Geneva.. Women in Morocco have made significant advances in terms of equality in economic and social rights. Committee Chairperson, Dubravka Simonovic praised Morocco’s progress and said Morocco will achieve gender equality soon. (more…)

Morocco TV will soon have a new channel that will entirely be “Amazigh.” Finalizing of the program specifications is being done to ensure that the national channel will be able to begin operations soon. Communications Minister, Khalid Naciri, noted that the channel will air a range of general interest programs. Such a channel has been a long awaited demand of a great many Moroccan citizens. (more…)

Morocco’s Atlas Lions roared loudly on Monday by inflicting a 5-1 loss on Nambia in their opening African Nations Cup game. Goals from Tarik Sektioui and Moncef Zerka put the Lions ahead of Ghana, to the top of Group A. Morocco soccer fans are more supportive than ever this season. (more…)

Morocco wants advanced status with the EU. Europe supports Morocco’s EU partnership aspirations. Morocco says that the status will help to integrate the two economies and broaden the access to the community’s markets. High ranking European Union representatives and European foreign ministers arrived in Rabat on Monday to discuss the issue. The European dignitaries underlined their support of the Moroccan initiative. (more…)

Moroccan Health Minister, Yasmina Baddou announced a new strategy to bring reforms to the health care sector in Morocco. The plan set to run from 2008 to 2012 will have two basic priorities. First, it is making treatment accessible to the lesser privileged of Morocco’s citizens and, secondly, bringing down the costs of health care and medicine. (more…)

Construction is set to begin on a railway tunnel running underneath the Gibraltar Strait that will connect Morocco and Spain. This Morocco tunnel project has been scheduled for construction for quite some time now. In the 1980’s, two teams from both regions met to begin talks about how and where to get the project started. The two teams assigned to the project are SNED from Morocco and SECEG from Spain. Although the two first came together in the 80’s, it was not until 1996 when the first technical report detailed the scope of the project surfaced. (more…)

It is time for Morocco’s team to demonstrate its many talents according to Coach Henri Michel. Atlas Lions will have to play its next two games without striker Soufiane Alloudi. Alloudi suffered a knee injury in Morocco’s opening game against Namibia. He will not play until the second round. Coach Henri Michel regrets that the star player will miss the games but he reassured that the other players have the potential for compensating the loss of the striker. (more…)
