Kuwaiti Group Receives Morocco’s Praise
Kuwait sent a delegation to take part in the 29th Asilah International Cultural Festival held in Morocco. Participation by the large delegation was a boost to the symposiums held at the Al-Muatamed Ben Ebad Summer University. Moroccan Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Ben-Issa, praised the Kuwaiti delegation calling it valuable.
The festival’s cultural activities drew more than 500 intellectuals. Among those attending from Kuwait were Kuwait Ambassador to Morocco, Salah Mohammad Al-Buaijan, Dr. Abdullah Al-Shaiji, professor of political science at Kuwait University, Mohammed Ghanem Al-Romehi, scholar, and the former Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait, Dr. Ismail Khedhr Al-Shatti.
Minister Ben-Issa said that the Kuwaiti’s presence enriches the discussions at the symposiums and other cultural activities. He, also, expressed appreciation of the Kuwaiti assistance to Asilah and the festival. Minister Ben-Issa pointed out that Kuwait and Morocco have deep historical ties. He stated that the ties in culture, economics, and politics should be held out as a model for other Arab countries to follow. Asilah International Festival is a common meeting ground for all nations in Mediterrian basin, Africa, and the Arab world to have dialogue. Politicians, media, intellectuals and artists have the forum to meet and have discussions.
Some of the activities held during the festival were a symposium on challenges and commitments between Africa and Europe. Among those attending this meeting was Kopi Annan, former UN Secretary General, and more than forty ministers from Europe and Africa. Another conference discussed music and arts in the Islamic world.
A discussion was held on the fundamentalist thought in the Arab world. Impacts of fundamentalism on future generations were the main order of talk. Minister Ben-Issa pointed out that the dialogues drew both Muslim and Christian participants. He hoped that cultural events such as those at Asilah would bring together people of different cultural backgrounds together.
The Asilah International and Cultural Festival drew to a close on August 19th.
