Marrakech Film Festival Celebration
Marrakech kicked off its seventh film festival by honoring Leonardo De Caprio and Martin Scorcese. One hundred and ten films will be featured during the festivities. Fourteen films are up for the Golden Star representing Algeria, China, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, Serbia, and the United States.
Jury members consists of Moroccan filmmaker Hamid Bennani, Russian, Pavel Lounguine, Claude Miller of France, Shekar Kapur from Great Britain, and Czech director, Milos Foreman is the chairman.
Di Caprio was presented with Marrakech Film Festival’s top honorary award. Receiving the Golden Star from his friend, Martin Scorese, he expressed that he always dreamed of being an actor. He said he never dreamed that he would be able to work with such esteemed men as Martin. Veteran movie director called Di Caprio a wonderful actor and good friend. Martin Scorese was given the Golden Star award in 2005. Also, receiving a Golden Star during the current Morocco festival was Moroccan director Mustafa Derkaoui for his contribution to the cinema in Morocco.
