Moroccan Jews Celebrate

by Journey Beyond Travel on April 13, 2007

Morocco, a country that has always held a strong notion of religious tolerance, saw well over 400 Jewish families in Marrakesh for the annual celebration of Passover. Over 75% of the Jewish families present were of Moroccan origin.

The Passover ended last Tuesday night, on April 10th, and was an occasion for those of Jewish heritage to come together from not only within Morocco, but from all over the world. Additionally, the planned occasion was set up so that those of other generations could have an opportunity to enjoy parts of their ancestry while celebrating and remembering their people’s exodus out of Egypt.

The organizer for the event, Mr Albert El Maleh, told the Moroccan press that the event was indeed a success and is just another example of how Morocco will always “remain a country of tolerance … and brotherhood”. The event was brought together with the central theme of tolerance between peoples.
