Moroccan Expats Help Homeland
Moroccan expats create a network. Fellow countrymen linked by common heritage and living abroad came together for three days to brainstorm ways to make foreign investors take a second look at Morocco. Using the theme Moroccan Investors of the World: Actors of Economic Diplomacy, the government held conference in hopes to stimulate Moroccan expats into helping their home country.
Many such networks of expatriates already exist throughout the world. One outcome of the meeting is to help overseas Moroccans to be more effective. Opportunities will be provided to help Moroccan expats become involved with the country’s economic development. Many former residents can and will serve as business ambassadors around the world. One of the main goals is raising the awareness of foreign investors to the current situation in Morocco and attracting large scale projects.
Morocco’s leaders take the expat community very seriously. Prime Minister, Abbas El Fassi feels that investments made by the expats should be channeled into the mainstream Moroccan economy. President of the Moroccan General Business Confederation has set up a special office to deal with all requests from overseas Moroccans wanting to invest in their homeland. He says that more and more are seeking ways to help Morocco and are asking for guidance in that direction.
Moroccan expatriates live in many different countries all over the world. They are involved in all sectors of business and society. These include finance, education, technology, communications, and many others. They all are good sources of information on how Morocco is perceived throughout the world as well as what Morocco has to offer.
