Morocco Gets New Stadiums

by Carole Morris on January 8, 2008

New stadiums will be built in Morocco. By 2010 Tangier, Marrakech, and Agadir will have new facilities in operation with seating for 45,000 people in each. Casablanca will follow suit in 2013. Plans are for a new 70,000 seat stadium to be built there.

King Mohammed VI chaired the signing ceremony for the new building program. New stadiums will meet international standards for sporting activities. Morocco will be able to host more world class events. His Majesty said in his remarks that sports is a vector of human development.

King Mohammed VI used this occasion to sign other agreements that involved neighborhood development programs of Sidi Moumen, Carrieres, and Lahranouiyine areas of Casablanca. These agreements are for development of urban infrastructure to ensure better and more access to services and basic equipment. This gives the local populace a tool to fight poverty and social exclusion. Last thing on King Mohammed VI’s list was inquiry into the development of Anfa Airport near Casablanca.
