Morocco Marathon Bike Race

Today is the last day of the 2nd Annual Titan Desert MTB Marathon, a six day adventure bike race in the south of Morocco that started on April 24, 2007. Most of the bikers have ventured from Spain, Italy, Belgium, and even the US in order to participate in the grueling 450KM (280-miles) race.

The race, still in its formative years, is open to all sorts of bikers and cyclers and is setting a new precedence in adventure mountain bike racing. Much like the Marathon des Sables in the south, where this year one sportsman suffered a heart attack. In any case, the MTB Marathon in Morocco could also be compared to the Marrakech Marathon that has been taking place for nearly 30 years. Intenrational sports sponsors are enthused about the race’s future as becoming an internationally famous and sought-after event.

The race also includes a marathon aspect where runners are not tested on their speed, per se, but moreso their ability to keep themselves focused both mentally and emotionally as they must use GPS units to coordinate theirselves from point to point, which includes some special interest points that will allow the participants to garnish more points for the race. The only medical services available are in the camp areas each night.
