Morocco and France are friends according to French President Sarkozy. He is in Morocco to nurture that friendship and mend a few fences. Mr. Sarkozy told that France has given Morocco 200 million Euros for development, has made France the primary investor with around 60% of foreign investment made in Morocco. He says that 500 French firms have subsidiaries in the African country that employs nearly 180,000 people.
Mr. Sarkozy’s hopes that his visit will promote a relationship of cooperation between Morocco and France. The two countries already have enjoyed corroboration in many fields such as economic, urban development and health care. When it came to immigration, President Sarkozy hoped that Morocco and France could work together to promote legal immigration for work or study. He favors movement between the two countries that promotes the interests of both sides.
Mr. Sarkozy looks for Morocco to be one of the pillars of the Mediterranean Union. He sees the fate of the Mediterranean and Europe linked together within the Union. President Sarkozy sees the main pillars of the Union to be inter-cultural dialogue, economic growth, and environment. He would like to show that the people living in the Mediterranean regions can work together to build a future that has peace and prosperity.
President Sarkozy has applauded King Mohammed VI for the positive reforms he has brought to Morocco. Some of the programs mentioned by the French president were the Equity and Reconciliation Committee and the Family Code. He praised King Mohammed VI for his courage in making just reforms. President Sarkozy will arrive in Marrakech on Monday afternoon. He will then travel to Rabat and Tangier.
