Morocco Sends Delegation

Another round is scheduled to begin on August 10 in the UN backed talks to find a solution to the long standing dispute over the Western Sahara. The Moroccan delegation will be let by Interior Minister, Chakib Benmoussa, Deputy Minister Taieb Fassi Fihri, Chairman of CORCAS, Khalihenna Ould Errachid, CORCAS secretary, Maouliainine Kahllihenna,Chief of Morocco’s Intelligence, Yassine Mansouri, and Super Governor of Oued Dahab, Mohamed Salel Tamek. They will be accompanied by top level Moroccan officials from the southern provinces.

Morocco shows her good faith and sincere desire to reach a resolution to the dispute with the Algerian backed Polisario by participating in the talks. Morocco has a sincere made a commitment to reach a solution based on the kingdom’s autonomy initiative. Morocco has tried to launch this process by entering into the negotiations at the invitation of the UN Secretary General of UNSC Resolution 1754. The UN initiative asks that all parties come to the table without preconditions and to negotiate in good faith in order to reach a lasting and mutual agreement. Talks that were held before have failed to reach an agreement. Talks held in June were attended by Morocco, the Poliario, and neighboring Algeria and Mauritania.

In related events, Australia announced that it backed the UN led efforts to find a just and mutually acceptable political agreement to the Western Sahara dispute. Morocco has put forth a plan of granting autonomy to the southern provinces in an attempt to bring an end to the thirty year old dispute.
