Moroccan Supreme Court Milestone

Morocco’s Supreme Court reached a milestone, celebrating its Golden Anniversary. His majesty, King Mohammed VI, addressed a message to the International Seminar of Justice to mark the occasion. The King reiterated his pride in the reestablishment of the Supreme Court by his grandfather, King Mohammed V. Importance of the institution was underlined by a year long celebration that ended with International Seminar.

Having an independent judicial system was essential to the establishment of the Morocco. This fact was emphasized by His Majesty. King Mohammed VI said that he is committed to preserving Morocco’s sovereignty and national unity, safeguarding security, serenity, and stability of the country and protecting individual freedoms and collective rights.

Furthermore, he stated that he appreciated how the Supreme Court has celebrated the event. His Majesty related how the year long series of events has given pride to Morocco. He reminded those attending how much work went into reestablishing the court by his grandfather and father.

King Mohammed VI is working through his leadership to strengthen the foundations of the court and the Morocco government systems. He vows to reform the court and judicial system, while preserving its sanctity, and to upgrade the legal profession. He wants the Supreme Court to contribute to consolidation of the rule of law. The King mentioned that the court has produced many documents in several languages over the past fifty years showing the processes of the Moroccan court. This shows the evolution of the Supreme Court and gives valuable information to researchers.

He stressed the importance of the Supreme court in today’s world and the changes in the international environment. Many factors are involved, such as terrorism, complex international relations, and state-of-the-art technology in giving challenges to the judicial system. It is necessary for the Supreme Court to adapt to this new environment. The judiciary and the Supreme Court will have to take on further responsibilities to find equitable solutions in new world arena. He ended his remarks by expressing his convictions that the judiciary and the Supreme Court would act accordingly to the challenges facing them.
