King Mohammed VI Launches Safi Housing Projects

King Mohammed VI was in Safi on Friday to oversee the beginning of the construction work on a new urban zone in Morocco. He checked on the development and upgrading programs of urban Safi, located in western Morocco.

More than three hundred families have been relocated under the Amoun program. His Majesty gave house keys to more than 1500 more families.

His Majesty inquired on the development of other projects that are due to be completed in three years. Sidi Bouzid, urban zone, was begun by the King. Approximately, 190 million U.S. dollars will go into this project. Construction of 4000 housing units will give nearly 20,000 people new homes. This will lessen the unhealthy housing problem and help to meet the increasing demand for affordable housing.

Safi has been declared a slum free city. Within this framework, another new urban zone called Hay Mohammadi will be developed providing housing for more than 6000 people. Ibnou Rochd will be a zone developed for middle class residents affecting around 1000 people. Lastly, Souiria Lagdima will be built on 88 ha, providing 12000 people low cost housing such as villas, apartments and houses.
