Travel Morocco In Your (Adventure) Style
How we travel paints the lens as to how we view this or that place, this one country over the other. It’s easy to simply see a country—heck, look for pictures on the Internet—but to truly enjoy it, one must first experience it. If you’ve only got one holiday to spare this year, then you want to make it a memorable one. Morocco is a land of Brobdingnagian variations and so offers up the chance to see and do the country in your certain style. Joachim du Bellay once wrote “Happy the man who, like Ulysses, has made a fine voyage, or has won the Golden Fleece, and then returns, experienced and knowledgeable…” Experience such as this, then, comes first in Morocco Travel.
Find Your Morocco Adventure
Most likely, there is a way to do Morocco your way. Whether it’s surfing, wind surfing or kite surfing; whether it’s hiking, trekking, biking, rock climbing or white water rafting; whether it’s taking a 4×4, camel into the desert for a Sahara family camping trip or simply seeing the famous imperial cities and lounging around, traveling Morocco gives you the choice to find your own path.
Morocco Travel On The Water
Morocco lies at the tip-top of North Africa. It, therefore, has one of the longest coastlines in all of Africa. With the Mediterranean as its northern border and the Atlantic Ocean as its western, you’re surely to find a place to try out some water sport adventures. (Or, places to simply read, relax and recuperate.)
One such place is Essaouira, Morocco. Surfing in Essaouira, Morocco, has been a well-kept secret for most of the last century. However, as of recent, its claim to fame is not only the waves but also the wind. By far Morocco’s most windy city, you can wind surf and fly your kite higher kite surfing here than any other location. Agadir, a close second, is more rambunctious, where nightlife is always easy to find. Both seaside towns are not megacities, but that could all change with the construction of hundreds of condos and apartments to the surrounding countrysides. You can participate in multi-day Morocco surf camps at each too boot.
With these water sports, you can also take a white water rafting or kayaking adventure during your Morocco travels. These are very seasonal so you should know in advance the weeks and months of your visit.
Morocco Travel In The Desert
Ever heard of Erg Chigaga? Well, if not, you won’t forget it after you take a 4×4 or Sahara Desert camel trip in Morocco. After climbing a sand dune, watching the sunrise or taking a snowboard down on of the thousands of triple-story dunes, you’ll have a new appreciation for the mightiness of it all. Morocco tours take you through Mhamid, the Sahara Desert, Erg Chigaga and Zagora. The desert is as inviting as it is desolate. You’ll see a few herders and nomads but not much else. At night, it looks as if the sky has been painted with the Milky Way, in a way you’ve never seen before.
Morocco Travel On The Mountains
Morocco is the land of contrasts. After you have seen the undulating fields of never ending sand and amazing beaches, it’s high time (literally) to either climb N. Africa’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal, or take a multi-day trek through the Mgoun Valley (Morocco’s second highest peak). The High Atlas Mountains provide a trekker’s paradise. With mules carrying all that heavy equipment, you’ll have no problem strolling up the rocky, panoramic paths.
If hiking isn’t your adventure calling, then you can bike Morocco too. This usually requires a tour leader and personal driver (with support 4×4 vehicle). You’ll cover some of the southern regions most detailed landscapes, wisping through small villages and past waving and children giving chase.
If you want something a little slowed down but still giving you the high, then rock climbing is becoming a very commercial endeavor in Morocco. Truly, Mo-ROCK-O is the land of rocks and boulders, of all sizes, shape, designs and textures. Climbing in the Todra Gorge is one of the best places as you can rent all of your equipment from the tour and safety guides.
Morocco Travel For the Family
A Morocco family tour is one of the best ways to get your family together for a cultural adventure. You can bypass all that adventure tomfoolery and visit the imperial cities that has made Morocco so up-and-coming famous.
You can even drop the kids off for a few days at one of the Morocco surfing camps and take a road trip down the coast. There are circuits that take you to and through some of Morocco’s most famous cities—Fez, Marrakech, Chefchaouen, Rabat, just to name a few. Moreover, you can stay at some of the best-kept secret riads, where culture, cuisine and cultivation bring the family together like never before. A true world-view education starts with a Morocco family tour.
