Itinerary Outline:
Day 1: Pick-up in Chefchaouen | Bab Taza |
Talassemtane
Once you are
dropped off at Bab Taza, the trek in the Rif Mountains
begins. You will pass through green pastures and
superb forests before having a relaxing lunch at Place
D'Espagne. From the peak of Jbel Lakraa at 2160
meters, you can see the panoramic view of the entire
region stretching to the Mediterranean coast line.
Tonight, you will be sleeping under the stars in
nomadic-style tents and enjoying a dinner prepared by
your guides.
Day 2: Taouerarte
Today following breakfast, you will be able to walk
the trail to Taouerarte, which is around 1100 meters.
The hike today will be around six hours where you will
have the opportunity to the heart of the Rif
Mountains. Tonight's arranged accommodations is in the
Refuge Taouerarte. And, of course, meals are
provided.
Day 3: God's Bridge | Akchour
Today, you will walk
towards the majestic God's Bridge, known as the "Pont
de Dieu". Today's trek will last around fiver hours,
but the natural beauty of the place is worth the work.
The geological formations and rolling hills surrounded
by mountains are a superb showing of the areas
magnificent history. God's Bridge is a red-rock
formation which is best viewed at sunset. Tonight's
accommodations are in Refuge Akchour.
Day 4: Beni Maalla
Today's
trek in the Chefchaouen region will be around 6 hours.
Today's hike will not take you to as many
higher-altitude points as the previous days, but
today's hike ends at around 800 meters. Tonight, you
have the choice to sleep in a tent or in a refuge
located in the small village.
Day 5: Oued Laou | Chefchaouen
Today is the offical last day of trekking. And, it is one
of the best. Heading in the direction of the Mediterranean
Sea, you will walk through agricultural areas of the Rif
Mountains and surrounding Berber villages. After your visit
to Oued Laou and its gorges, you will taka 4x4 transport
back to Chefchaouen and enjoy a stay in the village's
premier riad.
