This Morocco trip takes you off the beaten path for a full-fledged family Morocco adventure tour. You'll start off in Marrakesh, ride camels in the deep Erg Chigaga region of the Sahara Desert, and attend a surf camp that is sure to be popular with the kids. This trip is an inclusive Morocco family holiday. This tour is best done from late March through October, but can be adapted to fit the days your family has available and the time of year you will be visiting. In the hottest part of the summer, we adapt the itinerary for the High Atlas Mountains instead of the Sahara Desert. If you have any questions, please do contact us.
Day 1-2: Arrive Marrakesh
On your first
day, you can fly into Casablanca and continue onward
to Marrakesh or simply take the 1st-class train to
Marrakesh where you will have reservations in one of
our top-notch riads. Following your first day's rest,
let the adventure begin! The next day, you will have a
half or full-day guided tour of the Marrakesh Medina.
You will be visiting Koranic Schools, ancient tombs,
and gardens of times gone by. Enjoy the lively Djem
Alfna Square at night where performers come to life
and where both Moroccans and tourists alike enjoy the
sights, smells, and festive commotion.
Day 3: Zagora
Today, you will be picked up in the morning in Marrakesh.
From there, you will drive over the High Atlas Mountains.
After a stop for lunch, you will continue to Zagora where
you'll be staying for the night. If its hot, a pool is
available for swimming. Zagor is worth some exploring and
if you are truely adventurous, you can explore the vast
palm grove that lines the riverbed.
Day 4: Erg Chigaga | Mhamid Sahara Desert
Today, you'll continue a couple more hours to M'hamid, the
starting point of your camel trek. This edge of the Sahara
Desert is quite different than its sister spot in Merzouga.
The dunes roll, but the landscape is more rocky and barren.
The area is known as Erg Chigaga. After getting fitted with
your favorite camel, be prepared to gallop, ever so slowly,
into the desert. You'll have the opportunity to enjoy a
meal under the stars, and sleep in a rustic Bivouac nomadic
tent.
Day 5: Ouarzazate
After arriving in Ouarzazate, enjoy a refreshing swim, or
head out to the Atlas Studios for a unique look at
Morocco's Hollywood. All sorts of films have been filmed
here, including "Gladiator" and "The Mummy". Ouarzazate is
a newly-booming Moroccan city with lots of charm. Some say
it is the next Marrakesh due to its agreeable temperatures
and lively aire.
Day 6: Taroudannt
Upon arriving in Taroudannt in Morocco, you will notice
that the town has a stark and unique contrast with other
Moroccan cities. For starters, its does not have a European
feel or city centre like other well-visited areas of the
Kingdom. The city has a beckoning landscape with mountains
on the horizon.
Day 7-9: Agadir | Morocco Surf Camp
Today's short
travel takes you to Agadir, Morocco's sun capital.
This ville boasts 320 days of sunshine per year. And,
with all the recent flights from European capitals, it
is doing nothing but booming. However, you will be
outside of all the commotion and be able to enjoy a
relaxed stay at your beach riad (guest house) while
also taking surfing lessons (with or without your
kids!)
Day 10-11: Essaouira
After a genuinely engaging, yet relaxing time at the surf
camp, you will head for more fun in the sun in Morocco's
wind capital of Essaouira. Here, we have a whole store of
activities to keep you and your family enjoying life to the
fullest: wind surfing, kite boarding, horseback riding, and
even a family cooking course. In the latter, you can learn
to make Moroccan cuisine with a women's cooperative based
in the wind-swept town.
Day 12: Marrakesh or Casablanca
Today, your official last full day on your Morocco holiday
and tour, you can venture back to Marrakesh for any
last-minute gifts or souvenirs, or head straight to
Casablanca to catch your flight. We recommend getting a
flight out of Marrakesh, but Casablanca is only 3-hours by
1st class train.
