Day 1-2: Arrive Marrakesh
Fly into Casablanca and continue onward to
Marrakesh, or fly directly to Marrakesh.
Following your first day's rest, let the
adventure begin! The next day, you will have a
half or full-day guided tour of the Marrakesh
Medina. You will be visiting Koranic Schools,
ancient tombs, and gardens of times gone by.
Enjoy the lively Jma el Fna Square at night where
performers come to life and where you'll be able
to sample Moroccan food at the many food
stalls.
Day 3: Zagora
Today, you will be picked up in the morning in
Marrakesh. From there, a drive over the High
Atlas Mountains is stunning, foowed by a trip
down the Draa Valley to Zagora where you'll be
staying in a lovely bed and breakfast. If it's
hot, relax in the shade of the gardens or take a
dip in the pool. The drive today is six
hours.
Day 2: Tamegroute | Mhamid | Sahara Desert
Camp Out
A couple more hours to M'hamid, which is the
starting point of the camel trek. This edge of
the Sahara Desert is quite different than its
sister spot in Merzouga. The dunes roll, but the
landscape is more rocky and barren. The area is
known as Erg Lihoudi. After getting fitted with
your favorite camel, be prepared to gallop, ever
so slowly, into the desert. You'll have the
opportunity to enjoy a meal under the stars, and
sleep in a rustic nomadic tent. Visit the holy
town of Tamegroute along the way, known for its
library with ancient manuscripts, and green
pottery. The total drive today is two hours.
Day 5: Ouarzazate
After arriving in Ouarzazate, enjoy a refreshing
swim, or head out to the Atlas Studios for a
unique look at Morocco's own "Hollywood". All
sorts of films have been filmed here, including
"Gladiator" and "The Mummy". Ouarzazate is a
newly-booming Moroccan city with lots of charm.
The drive today will take four hours.
Day 6: Taroudant
Upon arriving in Taroudant, you will notice that
the town has a different feel than the other
Moroccan cities. For starters, it does not have a
European feel or city centre like other
well-visited areas of the country. The city has a
beckoning landscape with mountains on the
horizon. In total, it will take around six hours
of travel time from Ouarzazate.
Day 7-9: Agadir | Morocco Surf Camp
Today's short travel takes you to Agadir,
Morocco's sun capital; boasting 320 days of
sunshine per year. And, with all the recent
flights from European capitals, it is doing
nothing but booming. However, you will be outside
of all the commotion and be able to enjoy a
relaxed stay and take surfing lessons, whether
you're a beginner or not. The drive to the surf
camp will take less than two hours. Today is
optional and the itinerary can be shortened to
skip straight to Essaouira.
Day 10-11: Essaouira
Head for more fun in the sun in Morocco's wind
capital of Essaouira. Here, there are other
activities to keep you and your family enjoying
life to the fullest: wind surfing, kite boarding,
horseback riding, and even a family cooking
course. In the latter, you can learn to make
Moroccan cuisine at a women's cooperative based
in the wind-swept town. The drive will take three
hours.
Day 12: Marrakesh or Casablanca
Today, you will make your way back to Marrakesh
for any last-minute gifts or souvenirs, or head
straight to Casablanca. The drive to Marrakesh
takes three hours, plus three more if you are
traveling to Casablanca.
Day 13: Depart Marrakesh or Casablanca
