Morocco Ait Bougmez Trekking

This itinerary for trekking in the Irhil M'Goun Park and Ait Bougmez is flexible depending upon group travel plans. This is for the ultimate explorer who really wants to feel removed from the throngs of civilization. Explore untouched Berber villages, green, fertile valleys, and view some of Morocco's most breathtaking scenery. It starts and ends in Marrakesh, with an optional extension in Essaouira. We can also arrange accommodations before and after in Marrakesh if you desire.

In the winter months, we do not summit Mount Mgoun, but we do have various itineraries. In general, this itinerary, unlike in the Toubkal Region, will require camping. However, if bad weather arises, lodging is available. If you have any questions, please do contact us.

Itinerary Outline:

Day 1: Pick-up in Marrakesh | Tabant
Transport will pick you up in Marrakesh. Following, you will take transport to the small town of Tabant. Here, you'll sleep for the night before starting the hike into the Mgoun Massif park along the Ait Bougmez Valley. During your trek, we'll be camping out, visiting remote villages, and enjoying the amazing scenery that many believe surpasses that of the High Atlas Mountains. On this itinerary you'll also have the opportunity to summit the second highest peak in North Africa, Mount Mgoun. The remoteness of the area is truly felt and is why this is truly an undiscovered gem of Morocco.

Day 2: Abachkou
Morocco Trekking Ait Bougmez Valley Mgoun Today, you will walk about five hours to the town of Abachkou. This area is the start of the Ait Bouli Valley. The various views and peaks you'll climb today make the trek amazing. Tonight, you'll camp out while your guides and muleteers prepare your dinners!

Day 3: Tarbat N' Tirsal
Walking along the valley towards Ait Mdiwal, you'll reach a peak of around 2400 meters as you pass by the engravings known as the Tizin Tirist. The scenes display two Berber tribes fighting over land, women, and food. Today's walk is around four to five hours.

Day 4: Taghzout | Zaouia
Today's trek in Morocco in the Ait Bougmez Valley will take you southwest deeper into the Mdiwal valley. In this region, you will truly feel what it is to be in an area rarerly visited by tourists or trekkers. The trek takes about five to six hours, depending upon the pace and conditions. This walk doesn't won't require too many peaks and is a wonderful day for photos.

Day 5: Igoulassem
After walking along the Mdiwal river and actually descending to around 1900 meters, you'll stop for the night in this scenic valley. The river flows high all year long and the valleys are fertile, the villagers amazing.

Day 6: Ait Sghrin
Today, your hike in Morocco will take about five hours until you reach Ait Sghrin, which descends to around 1350 meters. The weather is warmer at this altitude, the river flowing, and the scenery is majestic.

Day 7: Trek in Morocco | Marrakesh
After ascending a steep cravasse towards the road, you'll pick up transport that will eventually take you back to Marrakesh. The walk is about one hour today and the drive around three to four hours. After trekking in the Ait Bougmez Valley, you'll truly feel you've experienced Morocco Undiscovered!
