We are always attempting to better our
Morocco itineraries. Over the last several years, we have come up with wondeful cultural, active, and historical trips that we promote diligently. We receive feedback from each tour and that directly affects how we run future programs.
Accomodation:We will be staying in hotels, riads, kasbahs, and B&Bs for the majority of our tours in Morocco. We will be sleeping out in the desert in a bedouin tent if a group chooses that option. Conditions in the desert and in the Hight Atlas mountains can vary greatly. It can get below freezing at night. You should bring a proper Thermarest or sleeping pad and a warm sleeping bag in certain travel seasons.
Physical Demands:Tours of Morocco and treks with us will require you to be in shape. Our trips are both cultural and active, which means that there will be some days where we will do quite a bit of walking.
Walking, Hiking, and Trekking:We rate
trekking in Morocco on an
easy,
moderate, and
difficult scale, as outlined on individual hiking pages. Most of the walking is moderate, while the difficult ones are more physically demanding. If you choose to trek, you should be able to walk and hike for a period of at least three hours, up and down hills, on unpaved trails, and at altitudes above 6,000 feet (2,000 meters). On our hikes into the High Atlas, mules will carry your backpack over the terrain. You might want to carry a daypack with water and snacks and extra clothing. It is advised that if you are not in such shape that you prepare yourself before the tour.
Weather:Summer (from April until September) is hot all over the country, even in the higher altitudes. While we still run hiking trips throughout, July and August are the most intense. It is adviseable that you bring a hat and sunscreen. It does get cold at night and you will need a fleece and outer wind jacket shell.
Winters (from November until March) can bring nights well below freezing. Snow can fall at anytime in the mountains and you may have to trek through it. Bring a sleeping bag rated below freezing, warm clothes, and proper shoes and outer wear. We also have gear on hand for those that need it. Our guides undergo rigorous training in both Morocco and France, and are able to help you in an emergency.
Food & Drinking Water:It is adviseable you eat only cooked foods and drink only bottled water, purified water, or filtered water in Morocco. A Nalgene bottle is quite handy during hikes.
Medical Form:After you book a trip with
Journey Beyond Travel to explore Morocco, you will be required to sign a medical form that says you are healthy enough to undergo a trip with us. This should be faxed to our headquarters before your arrival.
Travel Insurance:Travel insurance is compulsory on our tours of Morocco. It is requirred that you have at least US $5,000 for emergency repatriation from land, sea, and air. It is also advised that you have insurance for lost or stolen luggage and plane tickets and in case of trip cancellation.
Before traveling with us, you will be requirred to sign a form releasing Journey Beyond Travel from all liabilities during your travels in Morocco. You will also be required to provide us with an emergency contact, phone number (with country code), and e-mail address.
Visas to Enter Morocco:Citizens of certain countries will need a visa to enter Morocco. If you do not have a Moroccan Embassy in your country, you should contact the nearest one in the country closest to you. Journey Beyond Travel cannot help you obtain further visa information or help you locate or complete the necessary documentation for you to enter Morocco. It is adviseable that you give yourself plenty of time to complete the necessary paperwork if you need to obtain a visa to enter Morocco. If requested, Journey Beyond Travel will provide signed and notarized forms verifying your trip with us, which is quite common.
Emergency & Health Response:Consult your doctor before traveling. You should carry a personal, medical first aid kit. We cannot give you medications beyond the basics. If emergency medical aid is needed, we will respond accordingly. We will not be held liable for any emergencies, damages, or resulting injuries that might occur while on any tour or trek. By signing up with a Morocco trekking and travel tour with Journey Beyond Travel, you agree to these emergency and health-related terms.
Money Exchange in Morocco:Do not bring traveler’s checks to Morocco. Dollars and Euros are accepted and easily exchanged. Debit cards or credit cards with a Mastercard or Visa Card logo will most likely work at any number of the ATMs around the country. Contact your bank to let them know that you will be traveling and to make sure that they do not block your account access.
Responsible and Safe Morocco Travel:At Journey Beyond Travel, we believe in positive, eco-friendly, and responsible tourism. We stick to the adage: Leave nothing behind but footprints and positive cultural connections. We attempt to strengthen cultural ties between Moroccan and foreign cultures as we explore this diverse country. In fact, portions of our proceeds will go to the High Atlas Foundation and other organizations, which helps subsistence-level communities living in the most resource-poor regions.
Packing:Do not bring large suitcases or large duffle bags. You may bring a small- to medium-sized suitcase with wheels. Bring only what you can carry. A backpack and daypack are ideal. You will be expected to carry your bag(s) in and out of vehicles, up and down stairs, and through cities and medinas.
