Journey Beyond Travel

This Morocco trip takes you off the beaten path to the Sahara Desert near M'hamid into the dunes of Erg Lihoudi, south of Zagora. It is for the more rustic at heart and is a great getaway trip starting and ending in Marrakesh. Extensions to Essaouira are available. We can also arrange accommodations in Marrakesh before and after your trip.

Day 1: Pick up from Marrakesh | Zagora
Today, you will be picked up in the morning in Marrakesh. From there, you will drive over the High Atlas Mountains. After a stop for lunch, you will continue to Zagora where you'll be staying in a lovely bed and breakfast. If it's hot, you can relax in the shade of the gardens or take a dip in the pool. The drive will take around 6 hours.

Day 2: Tamegroute | Mhamid | Erg Chigaga (Sahara Desert)
Today, you'll continue two more hours on the road to M'hamid. Along the way, you'll be able to visit holy town of Tamegroute, known for its library with ancient manuscripts, and green pottery. Then, it's two more hours off road to Erg Chigaga, where you will spend the night under the astonishing stars. Dinner will be served al fresco and you'll be sleeping in a rustic Bedouin-style tent.

Day 3: Skoura (Valley of 1000 Kasbahs)
Following your stay in the Sahara Desert of Erg Chigaga, you'll drive back to M'hamid and be able to shower up before venturing back up the Draa Valley to Skoura, known as the "Valley of 1000 Kasbahs." The drive will take four to five hours and if you are up to it, we can provide a walking tour of up to two hours in the palm valley oasis surrounding Skoura.

Day 4: Ait Ben Haddou | Ouarzazate | Drop Off in Marrakesh
After leaving Skoura, you'll head through Ouarzazate, followed by Ait Ben Haddou this morning. In these locations, you can visit the Tamdakht kasbah and even head off road to Telouet (weather and time permitting). Following, its over the Tizi N Tichka mountain pass, taking you through the impressive High Atlas Mountains and back to Marrakesh.
